Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has beaten Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he rotated at Turn Four during the early running.
The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was fortunate to avoid just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner leading to the final bend on to the main straight.
Hamilton finished practice in P19, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
