Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to begin their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as key figures in House Halovar could enable the party reach areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This means them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Fans can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on next week.
